Jam Jar Edit
Floral design studio Jam Jar Edit specialises in creating pressed flower artworks.
First in our spotlight series, we have the wonderful floral design studio JamJar Edits founded by Melissa Richardson and Amy Fielding of JamJar Edit. After much back and forth, this April we had the pleasure of visiting Melissa's charming Victorian London house, which perfectly embodies the essence of their brand. The gardens were filled with blooms and every vase was overflowing with freshly cut flowers. It was so special to be able to film in the garden and observe Melissa and Amy source and press flowers for their works.
After our visit to Melissa's home, we drove a short distance to Peacock Studio, where Jam Jar and Jam Jar Edits, or 'Jammers' as they fondly refer to themselves, are based. Here, Amy gave us a demonstration of the next step in the process, which involved mounting dried flowers with acid-free glue and framing them with conservation glass. It was so interesting to learn about the history of the traditional flower pressing and how the method was once used to record plant specimens collected by plant hunters from around the world during the age of botanical exploration. We also had an opportunity to see some of the beautiful completed works for the first time, which was magical.
